For fundations we cut out letters and made words. (Michah) We had to make sentences and write them correctly on the blank. (Kaitlynn)

We had outside recess. (James)

We looked at our plants to see how they were growing. (Derek) We looked for parts on our plants such as roots, stem, and leaves.

Today we drew what we wanted to be when we grow up in counselor class. (Kendrick)

We sorted counters in a group and made a graph! (Max)

We wrote how to take care of the Earth! (Dayton)

After lunch we got to go to the computer lab and play computer games. (Kendrick)

We investigated our class tree to see how it looked. It had a little bit of leaves but not that much! (Allison)

Before we went to specials we watched a movie called the Lorax. (Jake)

We also got to go to Big Centers! (Derek)

Today we went to music and we played a new song for the parachute game! It was fun! (Michah)

Friday folders are going home today.  Inside will be your child’s behavior checklist. Please review these with your child, sign, and return on Monday!

In Fundations we got to finish our books on how we can take care of the Earth! (Sarah Jane)

We wrote about a way we can take care of the Earth in a sentence! (Evan)

It rained at the end of outdoor recess! (Kate)

We circled sentences that told us something that is good for the Earth and crossed out the ones that said something bad for the Earth. (Nathan)

In Specials we heard a book about workers and careers.  (Kaitlynn)

Today we wrote about our favorite special at Mill Creek. (Evan) This piece will be typed and published for our Cat Tale’s book!

We had fun at outdoor recess! (Kate)

In math we learned about sorting and found shapes that were the same and some that were different! (Sarah Jane)

For project we made something out of our recycle objects. (Nathan) Some of the kids made insects, animals, people, and trees!

In PE we played with balls and we got to hit the ball backwards! (Kaitlynn)

Today for writing workshop we got to write about any problem we wanted. (Kate)

We made a recycle bag and decorated it. We also got seeds to plant outside! (Sarah Jane)

Dear Families,

Our parents came and we did our speeches! (Maxwell) We got to share our writing posters too. (Devin) Thank you to all that made this special celebration! Videos were taken; I will work on getting those out. I will let you know how you can see these soon!

We did math today and sorted eggs on our papers. We then made a graph that shows how many eggs there were! (Emma)

We talked about recycling today. (Stella) We learned what the three arrows mean on the recycle symbol and we drew 4 things that has that symbol! (Xan)

We watched a video that showed us a landfill where trash goes and looked at some machines that sort our recyclables! (Avery)

Dear Families,

We read the fifth graders our speeches this morning  so we could practice our speeches. (Maxwell)

We had fun at outdoor recess! (Kate)

In math we added and subtracted to find the answers. (Emma) This was fun practice to see if our class knew when to add and when to subtract while I read math stories.

We looked at different objects to see if they are living or nonliving. (Allison) We discussed some characteristics of living things and used this to help us figure out of it was living or not.

We got to go to PE and played with balls and balloons. (Devin)

In writing workshop we worked on our writing pieces that we are going to share and then worked on our speeches! (Xan) We made a poster of our Earth problem too! (Stella) We are really excited to show you all our work at our writing celebration on Monday!

Today we went to art and had a sub. We made a picture of a part of an animal and then switched with a friend and they made another part of a different animal. (Avery)

We made a flap book this morning with a different teacher. (Evan) Mrs.  Cardetti came to our class for our last creative lesson!

In writing workshop we worked on putting ending marks at the end of our sentences! (Nathan)

We had a good time in lunch. (Devin)

Today we had outside recess! (Asher)

In math we talked about finding the difference when subtracting. (Xan)  The answer is what is left! (Avery)

Today in project we made a book about nonliving and living objects! (Stella)

Regarding students with summer birthdays: If your child has a summer birthday when we are not in school then you can plan on celebrating it anytime between now and the end of the year.   Just let me know what day you want to do it so I can get it on the calendar.  Thanks!

Dear Families,

·         Our plants are growing! (Stella) The kids were so excited when they saw them!

·         In writing workshop we talked about speeches and we are making our own speeches! (Devin) April 21^st on Monday at 9:45 am you are invited to our last writing celebration! We hope you can make it to see all of our persuasive writing on ways to make the earth greener and cleaner & hear our speeches!

·         We went outside today but had to stay on the blacktop because it was raining and snowing! (Xan)

·         In math we talked about subtracting and the minus sign! (Nathan)

·         We discovered that all living things need air! (Asher) Water animals also need air they just get their air in a different way!

·         I placed Scholastic book orders today!

In writing workshop we are still writing about Earth problems we see. (Austin)

In math we used cubes to help us subtract. (Derek)

Today we planted seeds and got to see what they looked like in the inside. (Allison)

Ms. Mielke came to our class and showed us a video called Franklin and Snails Dream. We also did two activities about the video we saw. (Jake)

We did some reading in Fundations today. (Kaitlynn) We have been noticing that the skills we learn in Fundations is used when we read and write!

Today we wrote stories about a rainy day. (Derek)

Today we went out for recess. (Asher)

In math we made number sentences for numbers by adding 10 and the left over number to make the whole number. (Sarah Jane)

We went to art and made 2D and 3D textured art. (Maxwell)

FYI:

Friday folders are going home today! Inside you will find: math homework, April Scholastic book orders (I will place orders next Friday), summer school applications, new foundation packet for this week, and handouts from MCE about various school/community events!

There is a PTA  fundraiser packet in the Friday folder.  It is for “Meal Stacks” (looks like gift cards to various restaurants).  The class that sells the most gets a pizza party. J

We started writing about problems we see on Earth. (Derek)

After lunch we got to go outside! (Kaitlynn)

For math we talked about the numbers 17, 18, and 19. (Asher) We broke these numbers up into 2 parts and wrote number sentences for them!

We learned about rainbows! (Maxwell) Water and light from the sun is needed to make a rainbow! (Xan)

In music we played with instruments while singing a song about driving a car! (Sarah Jane)

In Writing workshop we found out we are going to start a class project to make the Earth better! (Kendrick) Today we came up with a list of problems we see happening on planet Earth! We will start writing about these problems!

In math we talked about the numbers 14, 15, and 16. (Michah)

We talked about the clouds and made our own clouds out of cotton balls! (Nathan)

We got to go to a different reading center. (Austin)

Today in library we played on the computers! (Allison) Students did not get new books because next D day we will begin our Counselor rotation!

Dear Families

We mailed letters today! (Stella) We took some to the office if they went to somebody at Mill Creek, we put some in friends take home baskets, and some people are taking them home to give away!

We also got a package from President Obama today! (Sam) The class was so excited to see he responded to their letters!

In math we talked about the numbers 11, 12, and 13. (Austin) We found out how to add on to 10 to make these numbers!

The whole class had fun doing reading centers! (GeorgiaJane)

We went to PE and hit balloons! (Maxwell)

We sang a song about the water cycle and we can watch it at home! (Xan) Miss Gail taught us a song and we hope you enjoy it! It is attached to this email!

Tomorrow is Media center day! It will be the last time we go to library for a few weeks because Thursday is our Counselor/Media rotation change. Please return books tomorrow!
