Dear Families,

I thought I would go ahead and send a quick email for our class today! It was so great to see you all today at our program! We really hope you enjoyed our program!

Tomorrow is field day! Please send your child with tennis shoes and apply sunscreen since our kids will be out in the morning!

Frank & Michelle Baumstark, Shannon Fry, and Sasha Schmid will be here to help us! I’ll see you guys at 8:30-9:50 am! The rain date is Monday, June 2 but hopefully we will be fine tomorrow!

Dear Families,

We went in the cafeteria to practice our kindergarten program songs! (Stella) We hope to see you tomorrow!

We learned about sharks; when sharks lose their teeth they can grow them back again and again! (Sarah Jane)

Today in PE we learned about field day stations and learning the safe way to go in the water! (Kendrick)

We picked a whale and made it talk or think! (Nathan) Students used speech bubbles or thinking bubbles today!

We watched two short movies about sharks! One was fiction the other was nonfiction! (Sam) Just like stories we found out movies can teach us different things too!

We read our Down in the Deep Blue Sea poem! (Emma)

We learned about starfish today! (Evan) Some starfish can grow themselves back from a limb and others can grow arms back! (Trevor)

In Art we made our last art project! (Xan)

We practiced in the cafeteria for our program! (Kate) Our program will be this Thursday followed by our picnic! We hope to see you!

Dear Families,

We wrote about the ocean! (Evan) Our class also got to free write in their writing journals. We are spending a lot of time practicing writing neater and using capitals, spaces, and ending marks!

We had fun at outdoor recess! (Kate)

Today in Science we felt 2 cups filled with water and one is in the shade by the window and the other one is in a cabinet. Tomorrow we will see how the temperatures are different. (Xan)

For math we added and glued all the answers that was more than 10 in one group and the answers that was less than 10 in the other group! (Trevor)

We got a coloring sheet about safety from Ms. Mielke today. (Emma)

Reminder:

Tomorrow is our field trip! Please remember to put sunscreen on your child and to check the weather to see how they should be dressed! Please no sandals! If you are bringing a lunch please put your child’s name on the sack.

Melissa Edinger is bringing coolers for our class to use. The coolers will be in my room in the morning so we can put our lunch sacks and drinks inside!

Today check backpacks for your child’s yearbook!

Dear families,

We wrote about the things we would take to the beach. (Asher)

Before lunch today, we had Hickman high school students read books to us! (Kendrick)

In math we played a dice game with a friend. We rolled our dice and added the dots together and found the answers in our butterflies. (Sarah Jane)

We went to PE and got to go outside! (Nathan)

We are about to go to big centers! (Kaitlynn)

A few notes:

·         I will send folders this Friday and one last time next Friday.  Wow! I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the year!

·         Please make sure to read over the email I sent earlier about our field trip this Friday. Parent volunteers please remember no siblings on our field trip since all of the kindergarteners will be with us! We also want this to be a special time for you and your kindergartener J Thanks to all that are coming to help!

Dear Families,

We used thermometers and looked to see how hot and cold it was outside. (Asher) We put our thermometers in 4 different places this morning, 2 in the shade and 2 in the sunlight.

We found out it was hotter in the sunlight and cooler in the shade. (Kaitlynn)

For word work we found sounds at the beginning and end of different words! (Kendrick)

We wrote in our journals about whatever we wanted and drew a picture that went with our words! (Sarah Jane)

Today in art we talked about different kinds of lines! (Lily)

Today in music we danced to music! (Emma) Ms. Pierce told us that today was our last music class with her! (Avery)

Friday folders are going home today. Please check them for an extra Press Release and a note about our kindergarten program. Fundation homework is in there also with practice for the next couple of weeks!

Dear Families,

Today we heard a story called How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? (Stella) The dinosaurs in the beginning of the story were not listening but at the end they started listening. (Kaitlynn) This story started a great conversation about appropriate behavior at school. J

We had a good time at recess. (Emma)

We got to write in our journals! (Devin) During our new journal time, students are still practicing writing neatly and in complete sentences!

For math we did a number dot to dot. We started with the number 4 and had to stop at 44! (Asher)

Dear Families,

We wrote Mr. Coach a letter today because he is retiring! (Lily) We practiced writing complete sentences in our best handwriting!

Today we also wrote about what our dinosaur would be, what we would name it, and what we would teach him to do if we had a dinosaur! (Avery)

We went out for recess! (Evan) Please make sure to check the weather before your child comes to school. A lot of our kids had to borrow coats for recess today.

Today we practiced our songs for our program! (Trevor) We have almost 340 people coming to hear us sing!

We went to art and created stems to finish our projects! (Jake)

We had to write 3 words that were missing in a sentence to make it a good sentence! (James) We talked about adjectives being words that describe something in some way!

Today in art we made a vase! (Austin) Mr. Gwinner gave us our necklaces made out of clay! (Michah)

In math we pretended to be farmers growing carrots. We measured our carrots with cubes and paperclips! (Sam) We found out we needed more cubes than paperclips because the cubes were shorter!

Tomorrow we can bring a board game or card game from home! (Kate) Please remember to put your child’s name on it so it can come back home safely!

Dear Families,

Today for writing, we picked 6 words from the word wall to write, then wrote a sentence using one of them! (Allison)

We had a fun recess! (Trevor)

We got a book that we had to listen for words that told us what to do with our small kites. (Kate) This book helped us practice positional words!

We heard a chapter book called Curious George Flies a Kite! (Sam)

We made a kite! (Evan) I asked questions and students decorated their kites according to their answers.

Thank you so much for my chipotle gift card, jar candle holder, and balloon! You are so thoughtful and it means a lot!

Please return permission slips for our field trip and kindergarten program by Friday! If you are out of town please return once you get them so I can turn a count in for our class! I got most of them back but just wanted to remind those of you that have not returned them to do so ASAP.  Thanks!

Today in PE we played a game kind of like bowling. (Sarah Jane)

REMEMBER…Permission slips are required….there will be no calling home for permission!!!!

Dear Families,

For fundations we unscrambled letters to make new words! (Kendrick)

We learned the life cycle of a butterfly. (Michah) We put  pictures showing the life cycle of a butterfly in order. (Kaitlyn)

We had fun at recess! (Asher)

For math we had to draw the designs on a butterfly wing to look like the other wing. (Emma) We learned that butterflies are symmetrical and students had to make their butterfly symmetrical!

Today we had art and we learned how to do curly lines! (Avery)

Friday folders are going home today! They are really packed! Inside of the folders is new family homework, new math homework, and fundations homework!

There are permission slips for our upcoming fieldtrip and kindergarten program. These need to be returned! Our class newsletter and other news from Mill Creek are also inside!

Our parents came and we did our speeches! (Maxwell) We got to share our writing posters too. (Devin) Thank you to all that made this special celebration! Videos were taken; I will work on getting those out. I will let you know how you can see these soon!

We did math today and sorted eggs on our papers. We then made a graph that shows how many eggs there were! (Emma)

We talked about recycling today. (Stella) We learned what the three arrows mean on the recycle symbol and we drew 4 things that has that symbol! (Xan)

We watched a video that showed us a landfill where trash goes and looked at some machines that sort our recyclables! (Avery)

Dear Families,

We read the fifth graders our speeches this morning  so we could practice our speeches. (Maxwell)

We had fun at outdoor recess! (Kate)

In math we added and subtracted to find the answers. (Emma) This was fun practice to see if our class knew when to add and when to subtract while I read math stories.

We looked at different objects to see if they are living or nonliving. (Allison) We discussed some characteristics of living things and used this to help us figure out of it was living or not.

We got to go to PE and played with balls and balloons. (Devin)

Today we went to art and had a sub. We made a picture of a part of an animal and then switched with a friend and they made another part of a different animal. (Avery)

Dear Families,

·         Our plants are growing! (Stella) The kids were so excited when they saw them!

·         In writing workshop we talked about speeches and we are making our own speeches! (Devin) April 21^st on Monday at 9:45 am you are invited to our last writing celebration! We hope you can make it to see all of our persuasive writing on ways to make the earth greener and cleaner & hear our speeches!

·         We went outside today but had to stay on the blacktop because it was raining and snowing! (Xan)

·         In math we talked about subtracting and the minus sign! (Nathan)

·         We discovered that all living things need air! (Asher) Water animals also need air they just get their air in a different way!

Today we wrote stories about a rainy day. (Derek)

Today we went out for recess. (Asher)

In math we made number sentences for numbers by adding 10 and the left over number to make the whole number. (Sarah Jane)

We went to art and made 2D and 3D textured art. (Maxwell)

FYI:

Friday folders are going home today! Inside you will find: math homework, April Scholastic book orders (I will place orders next Friday), summer school applications, new foundation packet for this week, and handouts from MCE about various school/community events!

There is a PTA  fundraiser packet in the Friday folder.  It is for “Meal Stacks” (looks like gift cards to various restaurants).  The class that sells the most gets a pizza party. J
