We wrote more letters in writing workshop! (Asher) We made sure to write a fix it idea! (Devin)
We talked about the water cycle! (Trevor) We got to see how the water cycle works when we watched water boiling in a pan. (Sarah Jane)
In math we started a new topic. (Kendrick) We are going to see how numbers 11-19 can be made in ten frames!
Today in art we were making quilts! (Lily)
We had a great and busy day back! It was nice to be together again J 

In red folders I am sending information on school supplies for next year. We were asked to make sure you get these!

Also, this Wednesday is Paraprofessional Day! We have 2 paras that help out in our class daily—Miss Gail and Miss Biel. If anyone would like to send something in for them (card, student written letter, candle, gift card, etc.) I will put “goodies” together for them. I apologize for the late notice! I was already planning something for them but wanted you to have the opportunity also!

Dear Families,
In Fundations we wrote another sentence about Spring! (Kate)
We put our finished letters inside of envelopes! (Kaitlynn) We talked about the things envelopes need like addresses, stamps, and our names!
For math we sorted skittles on a rainbow! There were no blue skittles! (Jake)
We celebrated Trevor’s birthday today! (Nathan)
We are going to have extra recess! (Michah)
We made Spring objects out of scraps for our Spring bulletin board! (Derek)


A few notes:
·         I placed Scholastic orders already for those that ordered books J
·         Friday folders are going home! Please check them! Inside you will find: April family homework, April Newsletter/Specials calendar, and a couple of flyers from MCE!
·         Thank you so much to all that have sent in donations for our class post office! Our kids have been so excited!

We wrote another sentence for our Spring bulletin board! (Xan) We also did our letter drill! (GeorgiaJane) We have been working hard to remember our capitals, spaces, and ending marks!
We wrote more letters! (Maxwell) We will use our envelopes tomorrow so that some of our mail can get out in the real world!
In library we checked out a new book and then went in the computer lab! (Allison)
In math we played a math bingo game! (Stella) Students had a lot of fun making different parts for whole number.
Tomorrow is crazy hat and hair day!

Dear Families,
In Fundations we talked about sounding out words and practiced reading words. (Kendrick) We also wrote sentences about Spring! (Devin)
We went to PE and had a pacer test! (Lily)
We played a game in math called part-whole bingo! (Sarah Jane) We made numbers and broke that number into parts. This game is helping us see that there are a lot of ways to add two numbers together in lots of ways!
We got more supplies for our post office! (Nathan) We got a mailbox from Kate’s grandma! (Trevor) We will use this mailbox to “mail” our letters!
Today we went out for recess! (Asher)

Note about class email: I hope that you are still finding our emails helpful. If you happen to delete it and wish you can read it again don’t forget that I post them on our class blog as back up! Also, please keep in mind that our email is meant to keep you informed about some of the things our kids want you to know and to help spark further conversations at home! I make sure to call on different students everyday by picking out of a stack and they decide what they would like to add to our email. I don’t facilitate their answers instead help them to formulate complete sentences. It always is cute to see how they express themselves and what they find interesting about their days!

We got to go to the Planetarium for our fieldtrip! (Kaitlynn) We saw a lot of planets and saw a movie with the song “Rocket Man”! (Jake) We also saw a constellation called the Seven Sisters! (Derek)
We got to play outside before we ate lunch! (Nathan) We switched our lunch time with the first graders so we could make sure we were not late for lunch. We will do this tomorrow also since 3 other K classes will be going to the Planetarium.
Today in art we made another animal out of blocks! (Michah)
We played the game Up and Down the ladder in math. (Kate) This game helps us make different combinations for numbers in a fun way!

If you are interested in ordering books from Scholastic, I will place these orders on Friday!

Today we wrote notes to our parents in writing workshop! (Austin) We wrote letters asking for supplies to make a post office in our room! (GeorgiaJane) Please check folders today for these letters! We would love donations to our post office to make writing letters a lot of fun! Stamps, envelopes, a mailbox, fancy paper, stickers, and blank cards were some of the supplies we requested!
We talked about a place called Ireland and a boy named St. Patrick who got kidnapped and taken to Ireland. He went around Ireland when he grew up talking about his faith. (Emma) We discussed that St. Patrick’s Day is more than just leprechauns and shamrocks!
We made a rainbow and a pot of gold for project today! (James)
We went to music  and we used scarves to the movements read in a book! (Devin and Sarah Jane)

Reminder:

We go on our fieldtrip tomorrow morning! A reminder slip is being sent home today! Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest!

Today we read the story Click, Clack, Moo. We talked about the characters, the setting, and main events in the story by taking notes! (Avery) All week we have read fiction stories and talked about ways we can improve our comprehension. Writing our notes down about our story was a strategy we tried today!
We got to go outside and we are going again for double recess! (Maxwell)
Today in math we made constellations by connecting the stars in number order! (Dayton)
We talked about the Earth for project and glued it in our Sky Observation books! (Kaitlynn) Check red folders for them! The kids did an awesome job in their books this week!
Today we went to Library and did an animal project. We showed it to a friend. (Jake) Our class has been researching an animal and today they got to write about it!


Shannon Fry (Jake’s mom) will send green apple juice boxes and Kendra (Kendrick’s mom) will send green cupcakes for our special St. Patrick’s snack on Monday! Thanks so much!

Dear Families,
In fundations we practiced different ways that we can spell tricky words and writing complete sentences. (Kate)
We got to hang up some signs at the end of writing workshop! (Xan) Today we had a mini celebration and published our first opinion writing! Some students gave their pieces to friends or teachers, others hung them around the school!
In math we talked about 17, 18, and 19! (Nathan)
In Art we finished our butterfly art pieces. (Kendrick)

We talked about stars! (Derek) When we draw stars they have points, but they really are just a ball of gas! (Sam) Stars are far away in outer space, that is why they look so tiny! (Michah) A group of stars that seem to make a shape is called a constellation! (Stella)

Dear Families,  
In writing workshop we talked about lots of ways we can spell words without somebody helping us! We can tap out the word, stretch the word, look around the room, and use the word wall. (Allison) Tomorrow we will have a mini-celebration by publishing our first opinion writing piece!
We went out for recess! (Evan) Please check the weather before school tomorrow so your child will be dressed appropriately! It is supposed to be cold!
In math we learned how to make the numbers 14, 15, and 16! (Sarah Jane)
Today we went to music and sang 2 songs! (Kendrick)

We talked a lot about the moon today! The moon moves around the Earth! (Asher) The moon gets its light from the sun! (Trevor) The moon is made out of rock! (Lily)

This week we will talk about the sky. (Stella) We will discuss the  different things we see in the sky at night and during the day!
This morning we had a fire drill! (Lily)
We went outside for recess! (Kate)
In writing workshop we could write to people telling them about problems we see in our school. (Kaitlynn) We also saw a new “If you are done, you just begun” chart to help us when we finish our writing!
Today in math, we learned how to make the numbers 11, 12, and 13! (Dayton) We found out we can make these numbers by adding on to the number 10!

Have a great night! It would be fun for you to look at the moon each night this week and talk about the ways it looks! Seeing how it can change is always fun for our kids!

In math we made up number sentences that equaled the number 10! (James)
We got to go outside for PE and ran against other people! (GeorgiaJane)
Today we get to go to the neon dance! (Derek) I will be at the dance with my boys! Hope to see you J
Today we are getting ice cream and earlier got to go to the computer lab! (Avery)
We talked about our senses and what they do for us! (Emma) We learned that sometimes we can use more than one sense at a time!

Friday folders went home today! Inside you will find: Spring picture order forms (we take pictures next Friday), MCE letter from Mrs. Rawlings & Mrs. Beeler, Topic 9 optional homework, MIZZOU gymnastics & softball tickets, and some informational flyers from the community & Mill Creek.

If you still have a shamrock, send it next week! Our bulletin board looks amazing already but there is still room for more J

This morning in Fundations we made words and used our markers & boards! (Jake)
We wrote more about problems we wanted to solve! (Trevor) We learned that there are lots of ways we can write about the same problem! Some ways are writing a book, a letter, a song, a list, and even a song or petition!
We had fun at recess. (Allison)
We worked on many the number 10 in lots of different ways. (Evan)
We got to go to art and play with shapes. (Sarah Jane)
GeorgiaJane brought cupcakes for her birthday! (Asher) She also brought everyone a cool goody bag! (Devin)
We are going to have big centers! (Maxwell)


We  will celebrate tomorrow as a class because we earned our 5th star earlier this week! That makes another 100 cougar compliments! The class voted on me bringing ice cream! I am very proud of our class and all their accomplishments!

In writing workshop we are writing about problems we see in our school and trying to get other students to help us fix the problems. (Xan) Students are having fun sharing their opinions in their writing!

In math we learned how to make number sentences for the numbers 8 and 9! (Nathan)
Ms. Gail read us a story about a girl and her smelly sock. The girl used her nose to smell her sock! (Austin)

Today we went to library and checked out a new book. In computer lab we learned about animals. (Avery)
